Drake is stirring up speculation again, this time with his fashion choices, which some believe are aimed at Kendrick Lamar. In a recent Instagram story posted on Friday (April 26), the “6 God” appeared wearing a shirt emblazoned with “Compton Community College,” a nod to Lamar’s hometown.
The backdrop to this wardrobe choice is the ongoing feud between Drake and Lamar, reignited by Lamar’s verses in Future and Metro Boomin’s track “Like That.” Drake hit back with his own tracks, “Push Ups” and the controversial “Taylor Made Freestyle,” which featured computer-generated voices of 2Pac and Snoop Dogg but was quickly removed following legal threats from 2Pac’s estate.
The plot thickens with media personality Akademiks suggesting that Drake’s shirt might be a subtle jab not just at Lamar, but specifically at Lamar’s wife, Whitney Alford, who he claimed attended Compton College. However, Us Weekly has reported that Alford actually studied accounting at California State University Long Beach.
Akademiks, who frequently covers Drake’s strategic moves, shared on his “Off the Record” podcast that he’s been in contact with Drake amidst the beef. According to him, Drake has been observing Lamar’s tactics for a decade and feels ready for a direct confrontation. “He’s been waiting for this for 10 years,” Akademiks relayed. “He wants the showdown to happen now.”
In addition to his podcast comments, Akademiks voiced his opinion on X (formerly Twitter), criticizing Lamar’s silence and hinting that Lamar might be saving a response for a strategic album release. “But I’m hearing that [Lamar] is trying to sell his next album with the Drake diss… that’s WEIRD asf,” he commented.
The ongoing drama between these two hip-hop giants continues to captivate their audience, with every move and countermove closely watched by fans and critics alike.
