Drake is making his feelings about former friend and Toronto Raptors player DeMar DeRozan crystal clear, and it’s not pretty.
DeRozan was in Toronto with the Sacramento Kings to face off against the Raptors on a night when the team retired Vince Carter’s jersey, honoring the franchise legend. Drake, the Raptors’ global ambassador, was present and took the opportunity to roast DeRozan during a segment on TSN.
“If you ever put up a DeRozan banner, I’ll go up there and pull it down myself,” Drake declared, with no prompting necessary. He further escalated the situation by labeling DeRozan a “goof.”
Following the game, DeRozan was asked to respond to Drake’s comments and had a witty retort. “He’s going to have a long way to climb to take it down,” DeRozan remarked, adding with a smirk, “Tell him good luck.”
DeRozan spent his first nine seasons with the Raptors, racking up four All-Star appearances during his tenure. His friendship with Drake blossomed during those years, particularly after DeRozan was traded. However, the camaraderie appears to have frayed, particularly after DeRozan’s cameo in Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us,” which has fueled the ongoing rivalry between Drake and the Compton star. In the music video, DeRozan is captured crouching and gazing at the camera while Lamar delivers his bars. Lamar notably expressed, “I’m glad DeRoz’ came home; y’all didn’t deserve him either,” as DeRozan is seen giving him a handshake.
Just a month after the song dropped, DeRozan was spotted onstage with Lamar during a concert in Inglewood, California, while the rapper performed “Not Like Us” at his Pop Out concert.
