Drake always has a way of pissing off his fellow rappers, and this time, he is taking aim at Childish Gambino.
The OVO founder made sure to use the opening night of his It’s All A Blur Tour in Chicago to subtly respond to Gambino. If you recall, the “This Is America” rapper admitted back in April that the ultra-conscious track was originally a Drake diss. Not one to pass up on taking a jab at his hip-hop colleagues, Drizzy used his stage design to let his feelings about the song be known.
In a massive text scroll on the stage, the words “The overrated and over awarded hit song, ‘This Is America,’ was originally a Drake diss record” flashed in bright orange letters.
Fans instantly caught wind of the graphic and wasted no time recording it for social media. Since “This Is America” was released in 2018, it has gained much praise and an equal amount of criticism. The cut won Song Of The Year at the 2019 Grammy Awards, as well as Record Of The Year, Best Music Video, and Best Rap/Sung Performance. Many slammed the song for being a lackluster attempt at denouncing police brutality and capitalism. Nevertheless, the single went platinum reasonably quickly after its release.
Drake didn’t waste valuable performance time addressing Gambino on the mic. Instead, he put on a stellar show, starting with a tear-jerking rendition of “Look What You’ve Done” alongside a hologram of a younger Aubrey Graham.
Gambino hasn’t said a peep pertaining to his friendly competitors’ mild dragging, though it may actually prompt him to release an actual diss track in the future. Fans will have to wait and see.
