Drake’s legal battle with Universal Music Group is heating up, but the rapper is denying an alleged Instagram DM that has surfaced online.
Chris Blake Griffith, a celebrity stylist, posted the message where Drake compares his situation with UMG to Nike funding a campaign about LeBron cheating on his wife. He also claims he plans to make the label “a safer place” for artists moving forward.
In the alleged DM, Drake allegedly said: “Me and Universal is like if Nike was funding a campaign about LeBron cheating on his wife… not adidas or Reebok… Nike the company he been with since he started…my situation is not no street shit.”
He continued, “Everybody before me that tried the label was too eccentric so they wrote them off as crazy and they never had to pay for their sins and mistakes. I’m going to change that and make the building a safer place for every artist moving forward.”
The conversation also supposedly touched on Griffith’s claim that NFL player Stefon Diggs tried to drug and rape him, with Drake allegedly writing: “You asking me to post a tape about you ratting on people g.”
However, Drake quickly shot it down, with Akademiks calling the message fake. “Drake called buddy a rat,” Akademiks said, claiming Griffith made up the conversation to go viral. Drake backed this up, calling it all “cap.”
This drama is part of Drake’s ongoing legal dispute with UMG, which includes accusations of payola and defamation.
The court hearing is set for January 13 in Bexar County, Texas.
