Drake and Jay have had their weird thing going on. They take a couple small shots at each other. Are they friends? Are they not? The world thought we finally got our answer after hearing Jay spit half a bar on “Pop Style” but according to Drake, that collab didn’t come together the way we thought it did.
“Jay Z wasn’t supposed to be on ‘Pop Style,’” Drake told Beats1 Radio’s Zane Lowe. “I was really just trying to get Kanye on it. It didn’t play out how I wanted it to go.”
Drake continued, “Jay didn’t really do a verse. Really ‘Ye just sent it to me like that. He said, ‘Jay just did my first few lines for me…People want to hear Jay rap.’”
The 6 God ended up leaving both Kanye and Jay Z off the album, but goes on to say that he has nothing but respect for Hov, the two just don’t always see eye to eye.
“I’ve expressed my admiration and respect for Jay countless times,” he told Lowe. “Sometimes we just fall on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to the rap world.”
Drake also talked about his relationship with Nicki, post his beef with Meek Mill.
“I don’t really talk to Nicki. Again, another person that I have a lot of love and respect for. Not only for our past and how much work and time we put it, but even just the way she dealt with the [Meek Mill] situation at hand,” he said. “I understand what love is, and I understand a personal situation. She dealt with me how I expected her to, which was with class, and I could only ever do the same. There were points when I would sit there and go, ‘Okay, how’s this gonna go? How deep is your love?’ I’ll always have respect and love for Nicki.”
Drake also touches on Tory Lanez, Lil Wayne vs Birdman, and says that he and Kanye are supposed to be working on a joint project together.
