This upcoming weekend will be a memorable one for Drake. With the 2016 NBA All-Star Weekend taking place in Toronto for the first time ever, Drake will definitely be on the scene all weekend. Additionally, he will be headlining the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game on Friday as the coach for Team Canada. Having been born and raised in The 6, the rapper, who is also a team ambassador for the Toronto Raptors, has strong ties to the city. As such, ahead of the big weekend, it has been revealed that Drake will be given a key to the city of Toronto.
“Drake is Toronto’s biggest champion: in his music, his mentorship of local talent, and his presence on the world stage,” Toronto Mayor John Tory said on Thursday. “He makes people feel good about themselves and their city, and he has drawn the eyes of the world to Toronto. He deserves our city’s recognition and our pride and I’m honoured to give him the Key to the City.”
Drake will be gifted with the key to Toronto at a ceremony that will take place on Friday right as All-Star Weekend begins. He will soon be added to the list of big names like Nelson Mandela, Margaret Atwood, Mike Myers, Celine Dion, The Rolling Stones, Tiger Woods, Jackie Chan and Muhammad Ali to receive the key to Toronto.
