In a significant gesture, Drake commenced his It’s All a Blur Tour alongside 21 Savage by honoring Virgil Abloh in a remarkable manner.
On Wednesday night, Drake kicked off his first tour in five years at the United Center in Chicago. This tour serves as a support for his collaborative “Her Loss” album with 21 Savage. In a fitting tribute, the Toronto rapper introduced a massive statue of Abloh on stage during the show, acknowledging the late fashion designer’s ties to his home state of Illinois.
“Please make some noise for one of the most important people I’ve met in this industry,” Drake said. “Make some noise for one of the greatest minds that we’ve ever seen.”
He added, “Our brother, our family, he goes by the name of Virgil Abloh. Let’s pay some respect.”
The statue created for the occasion was a replica of the iconic moment when Abloh tossed a kite down the runway during a Louis Vuitton show at Paris Fashion Week in 2018.
Drake further expressed his appreciation for Abloh by sharing a photo of the statue on his Instagram Stories, writing, “Our brother is watching.”
Nevertheless, Drake delivered a comprehensive performance featuring songs from various stages of his career during the opening night of his tour. His setlist encompassed early hits like “Over” and “Headlines,” along with more recent fan favorites like “Way 2 Sexy” and “Sticky.”
At a certain moment, Drake dropped another clue about his upcoming “For All the Dogs” album, which he previously announced last month.
“I don’t know about these guys that go away for three, four, five years and wanna chill out and all that sh*t. That’s not me. With that being said, I got an album coming out soon for y’all,” he said. “It’s called For All the Dogs.”
