Family, friends, and fans came out to pay their respects to Drakeo the Ruler at Greater Emmanuel Temple Church on Tuesday. The Los Angeles rapper was laid to rest about two months after being fatally stabbed.
Drakeo was laid out in a $36,000 platinum casket surrounded by life-size photos of the Stinc Team rapper. A floral arrangement spelled his name out in blue and yellow flowers.
“It really hit me last night. Reality is setting in. This is my baby,” the rapper’s mother, Darrylene Corniel, said to Rolling Stone. “My son had class, and I wanted him to go out with class.”
After the service, mourners passed by Drakeo’s open casket to say their final goodbyes. His 5-year-old son, Caiden Caldwell, was in attendance but “not fully comprehending what was going on.” His mother, Tina Purtue, did not allow him to view his father’s body.
“We couldn’t do it. It was just way too hard. I didn’t want him to have any last memories of seeing his father in a casket. I just prefer to keep the memories he has and the photos,” she said. “Caiden understood he was coming to the church, but I kept having to explain that we were saying our final goodbyes.”
His casket was carried outside by pallbearers, including Chief In Heavily, Ron-Ron The Producer, Young Bull, and JoogSzn. He was brought to Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills and interred in a marble mausoleum.
