Drakeo The Ruler was killed in Los Angeles over the weekend, and his mother, Darrylene Corniel, plans on filing a lawsuit.
The rapper, formally known as Darrell Caldwell, was stabbed at the Once Upon a Time Festival on Saturday night while he was backstage.
“We plan to sue,” Corniel told Rolling Stone. “This happened backstage at an event. Someone needs to be held accountable,” she said. “They let all these people in, and you’re not supposed to have these people backstage,” she added.
Authorities have released few details, but a person with direct knowledge of the incident told the Times that a group of people attacked the rapper backstage.
She also explained her last experience seeing her son sharing that he was hit in the neck. “I saw him when I went to the hospital. They said it’s a homicide, so I wasn’t to hug or kiss him or anything like that. I had to look at him through a window,” she said.
A Live Nation spokesperson told the Los Angeles Times that an altercation occurred “in the roadway backstage” but didn’t provide any other details.
Corniel believes the venue security is responsible for what happened to her son due to their inability to control the environment.
“I will not rest until justice is served,” said Corniel.
