Following the release of the trailer for ‘Surviving R. Kelly Part II: The Reckoning,’ Andrea Kelly, the ex-wife of troubled singer, says she’s suing Lifetime.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After telling the network that she wouldn’t be a part of the upcoming documentary for several reasons, the network still included footage of her from the previous documentary in the trailer. In an interview with TMZ Live, Kelly was asked if she was okay with being in the promo for season two, to which she responded, “No I’m not, and they have a lawsuit coming their way, because I told them ‘I vehemently will not be apart of it in any shape, form or fashion.’ I did not sign any release forms, I told them I will not film. I’m not putting my name on this documentary.”
“When they brought the idea to me, I let them know that in no way shape, form or fashion will I be a part of it,” she said. “They reached out to my children without my permission. They reached out to my family members without my permission and then when I brought it to them that I don’t want you contacting my children, I don’t want you contacting my family, they did it anyway.”
However, Kelly’s issues with the network go deeper than that as she initially didn’t want to be a part of the ‘Part II’ documentary due to a lack of support for the girls after the initial documentary series.
“But what’s more important about this is that I’m not happy with the aftercare and how the victims and survivors were handled throughout this entire process even down to the bomb threat that was in New York,” she explained. They put us on a bus, transported us back to the hotel, which were under our names. No aliases, no security. Then we go off to the airport the next day, no security.”
When asked about what her beef was with the network, Kelly responded, “It’s not a beef, there’s no support of the women, of the survivors coming forward. Because of this to be a partnership and to bring awareness and we’re standing in the gap and especially me as an advocate, then how do we then leverage the position we’re in after having the platform and the documentary. It was pretty much ‘we got our ratings,’ ‘we got our marketing dollars,’ ‘we got our numbers, goodbye, see you, whatever happens, happens.’”
Lisa Van Allen, an R. Kelly survivor, was also included in the new trailer but has exclusively revealed to TMZ that she has nothing to do with ‘Surviving Part II’ due to not being satisfied with Lifetime and the network handling of the subject matter.
