Actress, singer, and reality TV star Drew Sidora joined the Baller Alert Show for an open and heartfelt conversation about her journey, career highlights, and personal challenges. From her early days breaking into the industry to her current projects, Drew left no topic untouched.
Drew’s Journey to Hollywood Began with a VHS Tape and a Dream
When asked how her acting journey began, Drew lit up as she shared memories from her childhood in Chicago. “I used to videotape myself doing monologues over family reunions and weddings, and my parents would be like, ‘Okay, maybe we should pay attention to this,’” she laughed. Drew’s natural talent led her to audition for her first movie at just eight years old, landing a role in Fox’s Divas.
But getting into the industry wasn’t easy. Drew explained that her sister, Allison, who worked as a writer on Martin, helped guide her through the process of building a resume, getting headshots, and finding an agent. “By the time I was eight, I was working and never stopped. It was clear to me—this was what I was meant to do,” she said.
The Highs, Lows, and Lessons in the Acting Industry
While Drew’s career boasts roles in major projects like The Game and Step Up, she got real about the struggles of being an actor. “It’s so many ‘no’s’ before you get that one ‘yes,’” she said. Drew even admitted to spending years working background jobs to make ends meet, including a blink-and-you-miss-it moment as a backup dancer in Usher’s “You Don’t Have to Call” video.
She reflected on how difficult times taught her resilience. “I’ve slept in my car, shared Taco Bell meals with friends, and done everything I could just to survive in L.A. It made me appreciate the opportunities when they came.” Her first big break in Never Die Alone alongside DMX was proof that hard work eventually pays off.
A Childhood Crush on Usher That’s Still Going Strong
Speaking of Usher, Drew didn’t hold back when the hosts asked her about her celebrity crush. “It’s Usher!” she exclaimed with a laugh. Drew shared a funny story about meeting him as a teen in Chicago when she nervously sang for him at a basketball game. “I hit every sharp and flat note at the same time,” she joked. “But he told me to get in the church choir and keep working on my craft, and I actually took his advice.”
When asked what message she’d send Usher if he were watching, Drew blushed, “I loved that cherry… Oh my God, is it hot in here?” The hosts teased her for leaving the door open for her childhood crush, but the moment was all in good fun.
Navigating Divorce and Life’s Challenges
Drew also opened up about her ongoing divorce, calling it one of the most challenging periods in her life. “It’s been two years, and it’s all business now—paperwork, dividing assets, even down to the dog,” she shared. “You fall in love, build a family, and then it turns into this. It’s exhausting.”
Despite the difficulties, Drew said the experience has made her stronger. “You get to a point where you realize material things don’t matter. I just want peace for myself and my kids,” she said. She also credited her faith, therapy, and a strong support system for helping her through tough times.
Mental Health, Music, and What’s Next
The conversation took a deeper turn when the hosts asked Drew about mental health. “I believe we all have a certain level of mental health to take care of,” she said, revealing that she had a brain scan to better understand how trauma has impacted her. “It’s important to normalize therapy in our community. We’ve got to talk about it more, especially for our kids.”
Drew also shared her excitement about her upcoming music and acting projects. Her single “I Did It to Myself” is out now, and her new album is set to drop around Valentine’s Day. “It’s been a journey to get here, but I’m so proud of this project,” she said. She also teased the upcoming season of Real Housewives of Atlanta, calling it “Sweet 16,” and encouraged fans to keep an eye out for her next big movie, Run, set to hit theaters soon.
