Drill music videos in the United Kingdom will now be used in court as evidence to connect suspects to crimes.
It looks like the U.K. is picking up some tips from the U.S. government, as it is now opting to use music videos made by drill musicians as potential evidence against them in court. On top of that, music videos may also be included as a form of “admissible evidence for a jury to consider” if it shows to be the “modus operandi” of an attack says Max Hill QC, the Director of Public Prosecutions.
“Drill music, by its nature, is supposed to shock, but it is not a crime and you have to put proper weight on that. What police officers, if anything, are [telling the court] is, ‘I’ve listened to it many times over, I can tell you what is being said; I can make a suggestion to what drug is being referred to,” said Hill at the opening of CPS West Midlands’ new unit, Complex reports.
