A drunk man who was under the supervision of ambulance service workers shot one of the EMTs in the shoulder.
While on their way to the hospital, a drunken 37-year-old Thomas McCauley woke up from his unconsciousness, pulled out a gun and shot one of the emergency personnel trying to care for him. The entire incident started at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday when crews from Richmond University Medical Center responded to a call of a disorderly person at the Funkey Monkey Lounge located on Forest Avenue.
When EMTs retrieved an unconscious McCauley, they started their journey back to the hospital in Staten Island. While on their way, McCauley allegedly woke up and that’s when he shot the 25-year-old EMT in the shoulder.
McCauley then hopped out of the ambulance and took off in escape. He didn’t make too far as he was taken down by a retired NYPD detective and off-duty sanitation worker, police said, NBC 4 New York reports. The EMT is reportedly in stable condition and is set to be discharged Thursday.
