Dwight Howard is ready to clear the air…well, kind of.
The former Los Angeles Lakers star sat down with “Way Up With Angela Lee,” where he discussed some of the many misconceptions about him. One of the biggest tales that he addressed is the claim that he is a deadbeat father. It seems that the 37-year-old has grown tired of the chatter and wants to put that notion to bed.
When asked what bothers him most, Howard replied, “People saying I don’t spend time with my kids or I’m a deadbeat dad or that I would ever do anything to hurt my kids.”
In 2020, his then 12-year-old son Braylon, whom he shares with Royce Reed, publicly slammed the NBA player for not providing any care for him. At the time, Howard attributed the situation to “toxicity” but chose not to speak much about it. Reed, however, has called him out multiple times for being an absentee father. Just days ago, he received backlash for forcing another of his sons to continue training in the gym despite the child crying and begging to stop.
Another rumor that has followed Howard for years is his being gay. He is currently facing a lawsuit from a young man who claims to have been sexually assaulted by the pro baller. Howard did confirm that he was not gay but would not comment on who he has had intimate relationships with. Howard did not touch on the serious allegations, given the ongoing legal case.
The accuser, Stephen Harper, says he was injured during a threesome with the ball player. Harper claims he only consented to sex with Howard and didn’t know a third person would join them. He alleges he was convinced to stay and ultimately forced into various sex acts.
Howard didn’t address Harper specifically but did allude to reports such as these resulting from enemies trying to slander his name.
