Dwyane Wade is defending his wife against haters coming after her for splitting the bills 50/50.
The retired Miami Heat star appeared on a recent episode of the “Club Shay Shay” podcast, where he expounded on why he and his wife split their bills in half. Union’s revelation of their finances sparked intense debate regarding whether or not she should be helping her wealthy husband with bills. Per Wade, he allows Union to help with money so their home feels like theirs instead of just his.
“I said something about it being my house that I paid for. My wife looked at me and said, ‘You will never say that to me again when it’s something that we share,'” Wade explained to host Shannon Sharpe. “So when we moved to Los Angeles, my wife said, ‘I got half on it. You will never say my house again. You can say that in the arena!'”
Wade also touched on the couple agreeing to sign a prenup ahead of their marriage. Both signed the documents to protect their assets out of respect for their careers.
“I told her the same way, ‘I’ll sign a prenup too. You’re a millionaire. You got money. You work hard for yourself,'” he recounted his conversation with Union.
Union and Wade wed on August 30th, 2014. The couple shares one daughter, four-year-old Kaavia. Wade has three children from previous relationships: nine-year-old Xavier, 16-year-old Zaya, and 21-year-old Zaire. Wade currently has a reported net worth of $200 million, while Union has a net worth of roughly $40 million.
