The daughter of legendary singer and actress, Eartha Kitt, is speaking out about the reverse racism she’s suffered because of her skin tone.
Kitt Sharpio recently sat down with Tamron Hall and discussed the negative comments she’s received about her identity. Sharpio is the only child to Eartha which some has doubted due to her light skin complexion.
“We all know we’ve been victims of some type of trolling or nastiness online and people,” Shapiro says. “They just assume that because I don’t, as I mentioned in the TikTok, look the way they think you should look then you can’t possibly be who you say you are. I truly think she was proud to be the parent of somebody that couldn’t be easily identified because she herself had been so stereotyped and so pigeonholed because of her skin color obviously.”
Sharpio shared what was the final straw for her when he came to her racial identity. Sharpio says she received an unsettling Facebook message from a stranger who says she lied about being Kitt’s daughter and claimed she was adopted.
“To which my response was when, ‘Do you think a Black woman could of adopted a white baby first of all?” she laughed. “I don’t care how famous she was.”
Kitt was a legendary actress and singer whose career spanned over six decades. Unfortunately, the ‘Santa Baby’ singer passed away in 2008 from colon cancer.
