Singer-songwriter #EdSheeran says he’ll be taking a break from music.
Writing, traveling, and reading is all the 28-year-old musician wants to do, as he just announced that he will be taking another break from the music industry.
The artist shared the news on Instagram on Tuesday, letting fans know he’ll be taking a ”breather to travel, write, and read.”
“Hello all. Gonna go on another break again,” Sheeran wrote. “The Divide era and tour changed my life in so many ways, but now it’s all over it’s time to go out and see some more of the world.” He continued: “I’ve been a bit nonstop since 2017, so I’m just gonna take a breather to travel, write, and read. I’ll be off social media until it’s time to come back.”
He ended his statement by giving thanks to his family and friends’ support. “To my family and friends, see ya when I see ya – and to my fans, thank you for always being amazing, I promise to be back with some new music when the time is right, and I’ve lived a little more to actually have something to write about,” Sheeran wrote. Sheeran is known for taking personal space when need be. Back in 2016, when he won a Grammy for “Thinking Out Loud,” he decided to skip the awards show and traveled to Iceland so he could be unrecognizable and “eat weird food, soak in the hot springs and ski.”
In addition to traveling, Sheeran shared that his next journey will also include weight loss. The “Shape of You” artist said he’s never liked the shape he was in. During an episode of the British podcast “Behind the Medal,” Sheeran said pressure from the industry caused some of his weight gain and compelled him to start working out. “I never liked the way I looked,” Sheeran said in the podcast that was recorded in September but released this month. “Whenever I’ve been big, there’s always online trolls, or newspapers, or like, comments … it’s always like “chunky” or “fat” or whatever.’”
“That was the other extreme of it. I’ve been really big and was like, now I’m going to try to get as skinny as possible,” Sheeran said, adding that the image expectation for a celebrity is “weird.”
