Education Secretary Betsy DeVos Resigns After Pro-Trump Riot At U.S. Capitol

The Education Secretary has submitted her resignation after the Pro-Trump riot at the U.S. Capitol.

On Thursday evening, DeVos blamed Trump for inflaming tensions that fueled the  “unconscionable” violent invasion of the U.S. Capitol.

DeVos is the second member of Trump’s cabinet to quit due to the riot on Wednesday.  According to CNBC, DeVos stated that she would leave the office on Friday.

In the resignation letter, Betsy talked about how they should be celebrating the accomplishments they had in education policy, but instead, they are left to clean up “mess.”

“We should be highlighting and celebrating your Administration’s many accomplishments on behalf of the American people,” DeVos wrote.

“Instead, we are left to clean up the mess caused by violent protestors overrunning the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to undermine the people’s business,” she continued.

“That behavior was unconscionable for our country,” DeVos wrote. “There is no mistaking the impact your rhetoric had on the situation, and it is an inflection point for me.”

Earlier on Thursday, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao stated that she would resign.
