The man who went on a racist rant against his Black neighbor before being apprehended by cops could face more trouble after prosecutors in New Jersey investigate previous reports of similar attacks.
The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office investigates Edward Cagney Mathews, not only for last week’s unpleasant run-in and arrest but also for multiple other charges, including a 2016 incident with a Black woman named Jazmyn Jene.
Jazmyn claims she spoke with Mathews in the neighborhood where they lived, and she recorded a good portion of their conversation.
In the video, Mathews is heard openly boasting about having police in his back pocket as he gives Jazmyn two options: resolve an issue amicably or go to court. He strongly implies that going to court will not work in her favor since he is close with the police.
Things eventually turn racial, with Jazmyn accusing him of using the n-word, which Mathews partially rejects by explaining that he did use the word, but not in the sense she implies. As you can see in the video, it’s a really feeble defense.
She now claims that she did report the incident at the time, but nothing happened as a result. However, Jazmyn claims that investigators have apologized to her for not acting sooner after Mathews’ arrest.
According to TMZ, Jazmyn has shared the footage of her incident with Mathews with authorities, and it will be included in the prosecutor’s extended investigation.
