An 8-year-old Indiana boy has died after mistaking crystal meth for cereal.
According to reports, on June 21 Curtis Collman, Jr. started eating what he thought was breakfast on a plate after he’d told his dad he was hungry. It turns out he’d been eating crystal meth, and consumed 180 times the lethal limit.
When a female friend tied to call for help, the boy’s father, Curtis Collman, Sr. threatened her at gunpoint. Collman even stopped his parents from helping the child, who began having seizures and convulsions, according to ABC 6. “An 8-year-old child more than likely suffered for many hours,” detective Tom Barker said. “It upsets you.”
This isn’t the first time Collman has had a run-in with the law. According to his record, he’s been charged with trafficking, sexual misconduct with a minor and was previously arrested for after a high-speed police chase.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Collman was charged with the death of his 8-year-old son, Curtis, Jr., pointing a firearm, theft, and failure to register as a sex offender. Collman is now seeking to have his bond reduced so he can spend time at home before his trial. Authorities are working to make sure he stays in jail.
