One week after Elena Delle Donne called out Lonzo Ball for choosing Big Baller Brand shoes over Nike during his Las Vegas Summer League debut, the Washington Mystics’ star player left the game against Indiana Fever in the first half with an apparent ankle injury.
Last week, Delle Donne threw shots at the Lakers rookie, saying “How great would it be if @ZO2_ blew out his shoe in his first summer league game? Should have gone with @Nike.”
Although Delle Donne’s tweet was a clear shot at Ball over his decision to rock BBB over Nike, fans were not amused by the baller’s negative comment. Many called her out for praying on Ball’s downfall, while others thought the joke was just lame. In following tweets, Delle Donne clarified her initial tweet, saying, “No one is rooting for the downfall of @ZO2_ you all are trying to make this something it’s not. I actually like him. But not his shoe.”
“Also if you’re an athlete or have any common sense you know that we blow out shoes all the dang time. I know what you all are trying to do,” she added.
Despite Delle Donne’s explanation, many believed her comments were distasteful. Now, a week later, Delle Donne has suffered an ankle sprain in the Mystics’ game against Indiana Fever. According to reports, she’s been a force on the court, posting 19.8 points per game.
