According to The Blast, Ellen’s talk show crew are “furious” over how they’ve been treated during the coronavirus crisis and the shutdown of studio production.
Ellen’s employees are reportedly “distressed and outraged over their treatment from top producers.” The main crew for “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” are about 30 employees. Allegedly the crew, “received no written communication about the status of their working hours, pay, or inquiries about their mental and physical health from producers for over a month.” They accused producers of leaving them in the dark about how much they would be paid.

Employees reportedly said that the executives of the show would answer their calls only when they decided to. When they did answer, they wouldn’t have any information to give them during that time. The crew is also reportedly upset about Ellen’s decision to hire an outside “non-union tech company.” The company was hired to assist the talk show host in filming the show from her home. The crew was also highly upset for not being told that the show was going to be filmed remotely and that they weren’t going to be apart of filming located in Ellen’s Los Angeles mansion. They, unfortunately, found out through social media.
The crew was later informed that they should brace themselves for a 60% decrease in pay even if the show continues to air. A representative from Warner Bros. Television stated, “Our executive producers and Telepictures are committed to taking care of our staff and crew and have made decisions first and foremost with them in mind.”
The crew is understandably upset because they have worked with Ellen’s show since the beginning, almost 17 years ago.
Ellen reportedly makes more than $50 million a year from her talk show deals, and she has a reported net worth of $330 million. Ellen has not had the best luck lately as she’s been recently exposed on Twitter for being a mean and disrespectful individual.
Comedian Kevin T. Porter was the start of the Twitter rampage when he asked for his followers most “insane stories” they’ve heard or experienced with Ellen. Porter coined Ellen as “notoriously one of the meanest people alive.”
The one tweet posted by Porter led to a long list of fans and ex-employees with terrible stories about their experiences with the celebrity host. Many have said that she was disgustingly nasty to them, wouldn’t let them look at her directly in the eyes during work, and one claimed that he was fired for not coming to work during a writer’s strike.
Ellen was also torn apart for comparing her quarantine experience in her mansion to being in prison.
