Ellen DeGeneres‘ long-awaited section inside a gorilla sanctuary is finally open to the public.
On Tuesday, Ellen’s campus inside the Fossey’s Gorilla Fund in Rwanda celebrated its grand opening. The campus took years to complete; in fact, it was just four years ago when Ellen’s wife, Portia de Rossi, gifted her with the gorilla conservation center.
After being under construction for many years, Ellen’s campus is considered high quality. The center contains state-of-the-art lab facilities with cutting-edge tech and resources. The camps cover several acres of land and have hundreds of thousands of native plants. There’s custom-designed furniture for the gorilla to lounge on and spread out.
The Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund was named after the late American primatologist and conservationist.
“Dian Fossey has always been a hero of mine, and so it’s been the honor of a lifetime to support this project,” Ellen says. To see my name alongside hers on the walls of this beautiful campus. And to know I’m doing my part to protect endangered gorillas and continue Dian’s legacy is simply amazing.”
