Elon Musk is currently engaged in discussions with the Italian government regarding the possibility of hosting a cage match against Mark Zuckerberg.
The Tesla founder and the Meta CEO initially introduced the idea of a boxing match through a series of social media updates in June. This proposition emerged as Zuckerberg was gearing up to unveil Threads, a competing microblogging platform.
Gennaro Sangiuliano, the Italian Minister of Culture, expressed that he was discussing arranging the match while ensuring ” full respect of the sites.” However, he clarified that the match would not be hosted in Rome.
“I had a long and friendly phone conversation with Elon Musk,” he said. “We talked about the common passion for the history of ancient Rome. We are discussing how to organise a great charity and historical evocation event, in full respect of the sites. It will not be held in Rome.”
Fueling the anticipation further, Musk contributed to the ongoing speculation on Friday by sharing on his newly rebranded social media platform “X,” previously known as Twitter. He disclosed that the upcoming fight would be broadcasted live on both his and Zuckerberg’s social networks. Musk emphasized that the visual focus within the camera frame would show off ancient Rome.
He went on to reveal that he had engaged in discussions with the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, as well as the Culture Minister, reaching a consensus on what he referred to as an awe-inspiring venue.
“The fight will be managed by my and Zuck’s foundations (not UFC),” Musk wrote. “Livestream will be on this platform and Meta. Everything in camera frame will be ancient Rome, so nothing modern at all. I spoke to the PM of Italy and Minister of Culture. They have agreed on an epic location.”
