Elon Musk Shares, Then Deletes Tweet On False Conspiracy Theories About Paul Pelosi’s Attack

A tweet from Elon Musk that included a link to an article pushing a false conspiracy theory about Paul Pelosi’s attack raised concerns about the type of content the company would allow.
The tweet, which has since been removed, read: “There is a tiny possibility there might be more to this story than meets the eye.” Attached to the tweet was a link from the right-wing website Santa Monica Observer, a site that has pushed an anti-LGBT conspiracy theory regarding the attack.
Musk removed the tweet on Sunday immediately after it was posted.

According to The Associated Press, the outlet has previously made false statements, such as Hilary Clinton herself died on 9/11, and has since been replaced by a lookalike.

On Saturday, Clinton tweeted a LA Times article about David Wayne DePape, 42, the suspect accused of beating House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, on Friday with a hammer in their San Francisco home.

“The Republican Party and its mouthpieces now regularly spread hate and deranged conspiracy theories,” Clinton tweeted. “It is shocking, but not surprising, that violence is the result. As citizens, we must hold them accountable for their words and the actions that follow.”

Police told CBS News that DePape broke into the Pelosi’s home, screaming, “Where is Nancy?” and had planned to hold Paul Pelosi until Nancy got home.

DePape was quickly detained and faces charges of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, burglary, and several other offenses.

CBS News found that DePape’s social media accounts spread false conspiracy theories about Holocaust denial, pedophiles in the government, and child sex rings run by Democratic officials.
Musk tweeted on Friday that Twitter would be forming a “content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints,” amid ongoing concerns about what type of content would be allowed on the platform and whether previously banned accounts would be allowed back in.

“No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes,” Musk added.
