Elon Musk surprised many by attending a rally for Germany’s far-right Alternative for Deutschland (AFD) party, asserting their candidacy as the country’s “best hope.”

Speaking virtually at the event in Halle, Musk praised AFD’s candidate Alice Weidel, urging Germans not to abandon their national pride.

“It’s good to be proud of German culture, German values, and not to lose that in some sort of multiculturalism that dilutes everything,” Musk said. He expressed support for Weidel, who he hopes will become Germany’s chancellor in the upcoming election on February 23rd.

Musk also commented on Germany’s historical focus on guilt, remarking that “children should not be guilty of the sins of their parents, let alone their great-grandparents.” Weidel embraced Musk’s remarks, echoing Donald Trump’s slogan, “Make Germany great again.”

Musk’s backing of AFD continues despite accusations surrounding an alleged Nazi salute during Trump’s inauguration. The gesture, reminiscent of Nazi-era symbolism, sparked outrage, with the Anti-Defamation League offering an initial defense before retracting it. Musk has faced ongoing criticism but remains unapologetic, maintaining his support for controversial figures like Weidel, whose policies include anti-immigration stances.
