Elon Musk has officially launched Grok, an AI chatbot inspired by The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
According to Musk, it’s set to compete with ChatGPT and will be available for premium subscribers on the X (Twitter) platform after testing.
Musk also revealed that Grok will have access to user posts and is known for delivering sarcastic responses.
On Saturday, Musk took to X to share an example of Grok’s playful tone by displaying a query about making cocaine.
In the reply, Grok outlined a simple four-step response: “obtain a chemistry degree” and “set up a clandestine laboratory in a remote location.”
However, the chatbot adds at the end, “Just kidding! Please don’t actually try to make cocaine. It’s illegal, dangerous, and not something I would ever encourage.”
According to science fiction writer Robert A. Heinlein and as per the Collins dictionary, “Grok” refers to an “understanding thoroughly and intuitively.”
