It’s official. The bromance between Elon Musk and Donald Trump is off the rails—and it’s playing out in real time on social media.
Billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk has taken direct aim at Donald Trump over what he’s calling a disastrous federal spending bill. Musk didn’t hold back, labeling the legislation the “Debt Slavery Bill” and accusing lawmakers of ramming it through without proper scrutiny. In a now-viral post, he wrote, “This spending bill contains the largest increase in the debt ceiling in US history! It is the Debt Slavery Bill.”
That was just the beginning.
Musk followed up with a “Kill Bill” movie meme and told followers to pressure Congress to kill the legislation, claiming it will balloon the deficit to $2.5 trillion. He even posted a throwback collage of Trump’s old anti-debt tweets, asking, “Where is this guy today?”
But it’s not just the bill Musk has an issue with—it’s Trump himself.
Responding to accusations that he flip-flopped on the issue, Musk clapped back: “False, this bill was never shown to me even once… passed in the dead of night.” He also accused Trump of being ungrateful, tweeting, “Without me, Trump would have lost the election… Such ingratitude.”

Elon Musk vs Trump
Trump, not one to let shade slide, fired back with a rambling yet classic Trump-style response. He reminisced about Musk visiting the Oval Office, even bringing up Musk’s “black eye” and offering him makeup. Trump said, “Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore.” He emphasized that Musk once praised him heavily and wore the iconic MAGA hat.
But make no mistake—Trump made it clear he still stands by what he calls his “great, big, beautiful bill,” touting it as the biggest tax cut and economic move in American history.
Meanwhile, Musk continues to lean into his narrative, rallying conservatives who feel the bill threatens fiscal responsibility. He’s painting Trump as part of the political establishment he once railed against.
Whether this is a one-time spat or the beginning of a deeper divide in conservative circles remains to be seen—but for now, the GOP power struggle just got a lot messier.
