Elon Musk’s Tesla is hitting the brakes on Cybertruck deliveries after multiple reports surfaced of trim pieces coming unglued and flying off while driving.
According to Electrek, Tesla has placed the Cybertruck under a “containment hold,” a move automakers typically take when they need to address an unexpected manufacturing issue before more vehicles reach customers. Many Tesla delivery specialists have informed buyers that shipments are temporarily paused, though the company has yet to make an official statement.
The problem? A boomerang-shaped trim piece along the Cybertruck’s roofline has reportedly detached on several vehicles while driving at high speeds. At least two incidents have been reported to federal regulators, with video clips circulating on Musk-owned X showing panels lifting off the truck mid-drive.
This latest issue comes at a difficult time for Tesla. After reaching a record high of nearly $480 per share in mid-December following Donald Trump’s election victory, the company’s stock has since plummeted more than 50%. Now, concerns about Cybertruck’s build quality are adding to Tesla’s financial woes.
Despite Musk’s bold claims that the Cybertruck is a rugged, nearly indestructible machine, this is not the first quality control issue to arise. The high-profile vehicle, which was years behind schedule before finally hitting the market, has already faced criticism over its unconventional design, production delays, and now, concerns about structural integrity.
For now, Tesla has not publicly addressed when deliveries will resume or what steps they are taking to fix the issue. But with owners already raising safety concerns, the company will need to act fast to prevent this from turning into a full-blown recall.
