“Shark Tank” judge Mark Cuban, one of the wealthiest men in the U.S., says he is interested in buying Fox News and Twitter (X).
Cuban, the former principal owner of the Dallas Mavericks, made this revelation during an interview with Wired. Fox News is one of the most well-known media outlets, and while Cuban acknowledges that it may be out of his price range, he would jump on the opportunity if presented.
“If I had enough money to do it, which I don’t, I’d buy it in a heartbeat,” Cuban said of purchasing Fox News.
Cuban estimated that such an asset would be between $15 and $20 billion, which he admits he doesn’t have “sitting around.” However, with a reported net worth of $7.6 billion, it wouldn’t be surprising if he could pull this off with help from a few of his wealthy investor friends.
The 66-year-old also suggested in his interview that purchasing Fox News could act as a counterbalance to what he calls the “Fox News generation,” which refers to baby boomers who criticize movements such as Black Lives Matter and heavily consume the semi-conservative network.
Twitter (X) came up elsewhere in the conversation, another platform Cuban would love to own. He has long slammed Elon Musk for the massive changes he’s incorporated since taking over in late 2022. One of the most profound is his rebranding the platform to “X,” moving away from its original name, though most people still refer to the app as “Twitter.”
“I wish I could. There’s no reason for him to sell it,” Cuban said, adding, “He who controls the algorithm controls the platform—controls that world, that community. And Elon has built, X has built, a very strong right-leaning community. They’re fun to f**k with.”
