At least five people have been shot, four dead, after a gunman shot several coworkers at a UPS facility in San Francisco on Wednesday. Following the shooting spree, the gunman, who was an employee, then turned the gun on himself.
The incident began around 9:06 am local time, two miles south of downtown San Francisco. Several employees fled to the roof, where they were later rescued by police officers. The shooting took place in a separate part of the building from where customers are able to pick up their packages.
“UPS confirms there was an incident involving employees within the company’s facility in San Francisco earlier this morning,” UPS spokesman Kyle Peterson said in an email. “Local law enforcement have control of the facility and are conducting an investigation. The company is cooperating with law enforcement. We cannot provide information as to the identity of persons involved at this time, pending the police investigation.”
