An EMT who witnessed George Floyd‘s murder says the cops waved her off when she tried to help him.
Genevieve Hansen, 27, was at the scene when Derek Chauvin, the police officer who murdered George Floyd, was kneeling down on Floyd’s throat. According to People, Hansen is a firefighter and an EMT who was off-duty at the time of the killing. She said during her trial testimony that police stopped her as she tried to help what she believed was a man dying.
“I was desperate to help,” Hansen said on Tuesday. “I would have been able to provide medical attention to the best of my abilities, and this human was denied that right.”
Hansen explained that she repeatedly told the officers she should step in, but officers told her to stay back. Hansen said she felt she could do nothing, saying she saw “a man being killed.” She added that she asked police to check his pulse. “I had already assessed that he had an altered level of consciousness,” she said. “What I needed to know is whether he had a pulse anymore.”
Hansen pulled out her phone and recorded the incident alongside others. Chauvin continues to plead not guilty against charges of second-degree murder, MSN report.
