Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta star Erica Mena is denying claims that she is racist after she called her Black reality show cast member, Spice, a monkey during a heated argument.
“I deeply regret my insensitive comment and want to humbly apologize to anybody I hurt or offended by my thoughtlessness. My choice of words was wrong, and I take full responsibility for what I said,” Mena told TMZ.
“I am committed to listening to the voices of those affected and will work toward making amends. As a woman of color and the mother of two black children, I want to make it clear that my use of that word was not in any way racially driven.”
She said, “That said, I do understand the gravity of what I said and want to use my platform to promote inclusivity and equality.”
According to Mena, she identifies as an Afro-Latina with Dominican and Puerto Rican roots.

she is racist!!!!!! she used the word monkey as an insult but it is not the first time; it’s the first time she was recorded…. I am also sick of the coons who lack the ability to support thier community or decipher what racism is. I don’t care what spice said that did not give Erica the right to call her a racist word. As far as her children having a Jamaican father that’s between her and children. The time it took for her to put an apology out also proves she is not sorry. She could careless…. she is just doing the protocols…. all that arrogance and no confidence….
