Reality star Erica Mena is now looking for a job after being fired from Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.
The show’s creator, Mona Scott Young, took to her Instagram to address the situation.
“Handled,” she wrote.
Shortly after, it was announced on the Love & Hip Hop page that Mena would appear in the final episodes of this season but would not appear in the next.
“The Love & Hip Hop franchise has never shied away from hard conversations in our community,” the statement read. “Working hand-in-hand with our partners, viewers will see the impact of Erica Mena’s remarks play out in the final episodes of the season.”
It continued, “Effective immediately, she will not appear in the next season of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.”
The controversy began after a recent episode where Mena got into a heated argument with fellow cast member Spice. Spice told Mena that her son hated her, and Mena flipped a table.
Mena, who is of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent, then hurled a racially insensitive insult at Spice.
“You monkey, you fucking blue monkey!” she screamed.
Since the episode aired, both Mena and Spice received immense backlash online for the exchange. Many people felt that Mena’s comments were out of line but that Spice should not have mentioned Mena’s son.
Mena’s firing comes on the heels of her arrest in an Atlanta lounge late last month. Mena, along with fellow Love & Hip Hop franchise personalities Bambi Richardson and Zellswag and a local resident unrelated to the series, was taken into custody following a brawl with security guards.
