Watch what you say on social media, it’ll always come back to you. Just ask ESPN’s baseball analyst, Curt Schilling, who has reportedly been fired after he posted an insensitive message on social media regarding transgender bathroom laws.
Schilling reposted a photo which showed an overweight man wearing a wig and women’s clothing and said, “LET HIM IN! to the restroom with your daughter or else you’re a narrow-minded, judgmental, unloving racist bigot who needs to die.” Schilling captioned the pic with, “A man is a man no matter what they call themselves. I don’t care what they are, who they sleep with, men’s room was designed for the penis, women’s not so much. Now you need laws telling us differently? Pathetic.”
Following his firing, ESPN released a statement. “ESPN is an inclusive company. Curt Schilling has been advised that his conduct was unacceptable and his employment with ESPN has been terminated.”
Schilling, who has been part of ESPN’s “Monday Night Baseball” broadcasts this season, had worked as a game and studio analyst for ESPN since 2010. This wasn’t the first time he had gotten in trouble over a social media post, however. He was suspended last August by ESPN after comparing extremist Muslims to Nazis in a social media posting.
“To be in a place where people actually believe I’m a racist or I’m transphobic says to me that something has gone horribly askew somewhere,” said Schilling on WEEI. “I replied to the post. I didn’t post that.”
