With the coronavirus pandemic continuing to affect lives daily, events and other miscellaneous things such as Hollywood productions and sports seasons have come to an abrupt halt until things are controlled.
With the loss of sporting events to air, ESPN has been finding creative ways to continue to air enjoyable content for its fans and sports lovers around the world.
The last announcement regarding the sporting network is that it will air 12 hours of esports coverage on April 5.
‘NBA 2k,’ ‘Madden NFL 20’ and ‘Rocket League,’ tournaments will air as a way to fill the programming void due to the hiatus of traditional sports leagues due to COVID-19, The Verge reports.
A press release regarding ‘ESPN Esports Day’ reveals that the coverage will consist of a marathon of previous tapings, aired initially on ESPN2 throughout the last year.
Kicking off the first three hours of esports coverage is ‘Madden NFL 20’ content, which contains recaps of the ‘Madden’ classic, Club Championship and Challenge tournaments, the outlet reports.
Global chief strategy officer for the CS: Go ESL Pro League, Craig Levine, recently told The Verge that esports is at an advantage right now.
“As other sports and entertainment have gone dark, we’ve probably inadvertently benefited,” Levine said.
Aside from the ‘Madden’ block, other coverage to follow will include the ‘F1 Esports Virtual Grand Prix,’ ‘Rocket League,’ and an NBA 2k Tournament’ which will see 16 NBA players participate in a 16-bracket event.
The marathon will conclude with a repeat presentation of the EXP Apex Legends Pro-Am, which aired last July.
