On Thursday, February 21st, in Beverly Hills, California, ESSENCE will kick off its 12th annual ‘Black Women in Hollywood’ Awards ceremony, celebrating the international influence of female artist-activists.
Hosted by singer and actress Kelly Rowland, the 2019 show will honor four extraordinary women, who have used their global influence, both in front and behind-the-scenes, to build a bridge between activism and art, in an attempt to impact true social change. This year’s honorees include Amandla Stenberg of “The Hate U Give,” Jenifer Lewis of “Black-ish,” Kiki Layne of “If Beale Street Could Talk,” and Regina Hall of “Support The Girls.”
“We are proud to salute the marvelous work and stunning achievements of our 2019 ‘Black Women in Hollywood’ awardees, who as a collective presence are challenging perceptions and impacting social change,” MoAna Luu, Chief of Creative and Content Office for ESSENCE. “Through their craft and their commitment to causes, Amandla, Jenifer, Kiki, and Regina represent the dynamic intersection of art and activism that is influencing how we shape our own destiny.”
In addition to the four honorees, ESSENCE has also selected three talented Black women in Hollywood to serve as presenters, Regina King, Sanaa Lathan, and Elaine Welteroth, with a groundbreaking performance by Amber Riley.
Although the show is set to kick off on Thursday in California, it will also be live streamed on Facebook at 11:15 AM PST, will you be tuning in?
