On Sunday, former NFL and USFL running back Alex Collins died in a motorcycle accident at 28.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said that Collins was driving a motorcycle that crashed into a sport-utility vehicle in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida.
According to reports, Collins’s motorcycle struck the rear passenger side of the SUV as it made a left turn. “The impact caused the motorcyclist to enter the rear passenger side window of the Chevrolet and come to a final rest inside the car,” officials said.
Police say the SUV driver, whose name was not revealed, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
“Alex was cherished by his family and friends as well as supporters from all around the world. All who truly know him can attest to his drive, determination, and larger-than-life personality,” his family said in a statement. “We kindly request your thoughts and prayers for our family during this difficult time.”
“Alex was a joy to be around and someone whose light shined brightly,” said Ravens coach John Harbaugh. “I’ll always remember him for being a great teammate who had an uplifting spirit that impacted everyone he encountered. … We send our heartfelt condolences and support to Alex’s family.”
