According to a witness, the ex-girlfriend of the driver charged in the deadly Waukesha Christmas parade rampage was seen fleeing the vehicle moments before it all happened with a black eye.
Darrell Brooks, 39, was allegedly involved in a domestic dispute before he crashed into the parade crowd on Sunday, killing five people and wounding 48 others.
Brooks’ ex-girlfriend was seen fleeing barefoot from him following a confrontation, according to a neighbor who spoke to The Sun.
The woman, who identified herself as Ebony, said that the couple fought often outside of Brooks’ home. On one occasion the woman said she had to step in and even threatened to call the police.
According to Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson, Brooks fled the scene before police arrived to the domestic disturbance, so he was not pursued during the time of the incident.
According to Thompson, there was no proof that Brooks knew anyone in the parade.
Four women, ages 52 to 79, and an 81-year-old man were among the dead.
Court documents show that Brooks was out on a $1000 cash bail at the time of the tragedy for reportedly striking his ex-girlfriend and purposely running her “over with his vehicle” in a Milwaukee gas station parking lot on Nov. 2.
Brooks has been charged with over 16 crimes since 1999.
