Lil Duval is one of the funniest comedians to date, and he’s also on his music tip. On top of his success in endless movies, television shows, and of course, Instagram, the Florida native creates bangers. His standout single “Smile Bitch (Living My Best Life)” featuring Snoop Dogg and Ball Greezy went viral immediately — as it should, given it has a relatable hook and catchy melody.
Now in light of the national weed holiday 4/20, real name Roland Powell releases his brand new record titled “High,” featuring the legendary Devin The Dude. This is a collaboration for the books, given both artists’ stature in the industry and love for marijuana.
In an exclusive interview with Baller Alert, Duval reveals that 4/20 is the direct inspo for “High.” “I try to make ecosystem music,” he states. “All my music is stuff that I feel is organic and for the climate. Right now, everybody is chilling and can’t do anything so that’s why I made this song about getting high together. It’s an R&B love stoner song.”
In terms of getting the “What A Job” rapper on the record, Duval says the collab was “easy.” “We did a movie together about weed. My fans and followers already know our chemistry already so it’s going to be even more chemistry when they hear this song. It’s smooth, groove R&B. It fits him perfectly and it fits me perfectly.”
The film Duval touches on is 2012’s Highway. Fast forward to 2020, quarantine life has been nothing different for Duval, who was already prepared for this pandemic. He explains how he already had his mind on isolation before the mandated lockdowns to stay home and away from others.
When asked about Duval’s love for marijuana, he states, “It brings me joy. [laughs] It’s a great pastime, especially in today’s climate.”
In the end, Duval hopes you can put “High” in your stoner playlist and just vibe. He states, “I hope it gives you the energy that I have inside of me.”
