While on the red carpet for Fusion’s All Def Roast- The Smoked Out Roast of Snoop Dogg, Russell Simmons took a moment to talk to Baller Alert about the open letter he addressed to his former friend, president-elect Donald Trump.
Russell says that he originally wrote the letter to Trump, his friend of over 30 years, as a figurative “hug,” a way to give him advice about the way he was running his campaign. Unfortunately, despite the advice, Russell says that the racist remarks, islamophobia, homophobia and other hateful trends, continued.
As far as whether the two will ever reclaim their friendship, Russell has an answer for that also.
“The country is much more important to me than my friendship with any one person,” said Simmons.
