Experts And Doctors See Rise In Sexually Transmitted Diseases Now That Folks Are Out The House Post-Pandemic

Experts see a rise in sexually transmitted diseases post-pandemic.

Some of y’all might be having too hot of a summer because experts and doctors are seeing numbers rise in sexually transmitted diseases now that Rona has somewhat subsided and folks are finally getting out the house.

“We are expecting the summer of love,” said David Harvey, executive director of the National Coalition of STD Directors. “People are going to be connecting this summer as they come out of the pandemic, and we think that is, unfortunately, going to drive STI rates even higher,” said Harvey.

Experts went on to say that now that people are free, they plan to indulge on all things they could for over a year, and yes, that includes casual sex. Dating expert Serena Kerrigan said people want to make up for the loss of 2020 and the first half of 2021, NBC News reports.

”It’s about making up for lost time,” Kerrigan said. “We’re literally burning our tie-dye sweatpants, and people are really excited to go out and look good and feel good.”

While there’s nothing wrong with getting your groove on, the key is to do it safely. The news outlet reports that STDs have risen in numbers throughout history. In 2019, more than 2.5 million people reported having an infection, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
