Two families whose loved ones died in the Kobe Bryant helicopter crash recently reached an agreement with Los Angeles County over the alleged distribution of crash site images, but Vanessa Bryant remains at odds.
According to documents, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved $2.5 million to be split between Mathew Mauser, whose wife died in the crash, and J.J. Altobelli and Alexis Altobelli., who lost their mother, father, and 14-year-old sister.
The County Counsel stated that settling with the families would be the best option while they dealt with Vanessa’s lawsuit and one from Chris Chester, whose wife and child were killed in the crash. The lawsuits are said to have cost L.A. County $1.29 million in legal fees.
However, Vanessa and Chris’ lawsuits are still pending and might go to trial real soon. A judge has refused L.A. County’s demand for mental assessments of Vanessa and Chris, stating that it was filed too late in the case.
The county claimed that psychological exams would help evaluate whether their emotional disturbance was caused by crash images that she and the public had never seen.
