After ordering a couple to leave because they refused to take off their masks while inside, the owner of a Texas bar is defending his “no masks permitted” policy.
With a group of friends, new parents, Natalie Wester and her husband went to Hang Time, a bar/restaurant in Rowlett, Texas, since they didn’t get to do it very often.
Wester said, “if you’ve ever been a new parent having those couple of hours out like once a month or so is so important for your mental health.”
Though both completely vaccinated, the couple decided to wear masks in the establishment to protect their immunocompromised 4-month-old baby. However, inside the restaurant, they were warned that they had to remove their masks.
“Our waitress came over, sat down next to me, and said, ‘Our manager sent me over because I am nicer than he is. And yes, this is very political, but you need to take your mask off,’” Wester said.
The owner claimed the “no mask allowed” policy is part of the dress code.
“I have spent my money on this business. I put my blood, sweat, and tears in this business, and I don’t want any masks in here,” he said. “I feel the overall reaction with the masks is ridiculous in the United States right now.”
The owner claims that it is a private business and that he has every right to refuse service to people who wish to wear a mask. The policy isn’t announced, but the hostess urges anyone wearing a mask to remove it at the door.
The owner said, “So when they put their masks on the other night, they were reminded that they were asked at the front to take it off. They didn’t want to, so we asked them to leave.”
According to the bar owner, he was unaware of the Westers son but said that he strongly believes in his “no mask allowed” policy.
