Fans are receiving the first look at HBO‘s documentary centered around the life and music career of iconic singer Tina Turner.
On Tuesday, HBO dropped the official trailer for the documentary “Tina.” According to People, the documentary will start at the beginning of her childhood. “My mother used to sit in the window of the kitchen when she was making dinner on Sundays. I used to just watch her. She was just so pretty,” the 81-year-old says in the trailer. “One day, she wasn’t in that window. She was never in it again,” said Tina referring to the moment her mother left her family to get away from the abusive relationship she had with Turner’s father.
“I wanted her to come for me. I waited, and she never did. And it’s alright — you know why?” she adds. “I’m a girl from a cotton field that pulled myself above the destruction and the mistakes. And I’m here for you.”
The documentary was directed by Dan Lindsay, T.J. Martin, and Lightbox. In the description, the doc is described as a “revealing and intimate look at the life and career.” “Tina” will include interviews with Tina in her hometown of Zurich, Switzerland, along with new footage, audiotapes, and personal photos of the songstress.
Hollywood greats like Oprah Winfrey and Tina Turner – who played her in the hit film “What’s Love Got to Do with It” – will also be featured in the documentary. The doc will hit HBO on March 27.
