Fans are wondering why Taylor Lautner isn’t in the upcoming “Sharkboy and Lavagirl” sequel.
“Sharkboy and Lavagirl” director Robert Rodriguez brings back the hit 2005 film in a sequel titled “We Can Be Heroes,” which is set to premiere on Netflix. But, some things have changed: both Sharkboy and Lavagirl are now parents to their daughter, Guppy. That’s not the only amendment though, Lautner is reportedly not returning as Sharkboy.
Lautner played Sharkboy alongside Taylor Dooley, who will reprise her role as Lavagirl. For us millennials, this is pretty heartbreaking, seeing as Lautner not only gave us this iconic role, but we also grew up watching him in other shows and films like “Twilight.”
Netflix announced the news on Tuesday, and it didn’t take long for Lautner’s name to go viral, with fans expressing their disappointment for him being recast. “Wanna feel old? Sharkboy and Lavagirl are parents now (and their daughter is played by Vivien Lyra Blair aka Girl from BIRD BOX) WE CAN BE HEROES releases globally on Netflix on New Year’s Day,” Netflix wrote.
In response to the news, one fan wrote, “WHO’S THAT SHARKBOY IMPOSTER WHERE IS TAYLOR LAUTNER.” Another person wrote, “I’m sorry but Taylor Lautner will always be THE sharkboy and Netflix should’ve done everything possible to get him out of the cave where he’s hiding. I want my full 2005 nostalgia experience!”
Coming in as Lautner’s replacement is JJ Dashnaw. The actors who played Sharkboy and Lavagirl’s rivals, Cayden Boyd and Jacob Davich, will return for their roles. The film will also have some new characters in the film played by Priyanka Chopra, Christopher McDonald, and Christian Slater. The movie’s plot reads: “When alien invaders kidnap Earth’s superheroes, their children must team up and learn to work together if they want to save their parents and the world.”
Should they have made sure Taylor was a part of this?
