A 47-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after a sexual fantasy left his partner disfigured with life-altering injuries.
Days before the catastrophic incident, #DavidJeffers’ partner, who cannot be named for legal reasons, texted Jeffers about her sexual fantasy saying, ‘I can’t sleep, so excited.’
On January 30th, the woman arranged for Jeffers to stay with her in a hotel in Manchester. When Jeffers arrived, the two drank and took drugs just before their intimate moment.
Sometime during the sexual activity, Jeffers inserted a shotgun that he claimed to have found in the toilet of Wetherspoon’s pub at Leeds train station, into the woman’s vagina and accidentally pulled the trigger.
As the injured woman laid on the bed, Jeffers called the reception desk for assistance, just before getting dressed, leaving the scene, ditching the “antique” shotgun and catching a train back to Leeds.
The woman was then transported to a hospital, where she received an emergency surgery that saved her life. She sustained traumatic injuries to her vagina, bladder and uterus.
In turn, Jeffers was charged for attempted murder and pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
After prosecutors argued that Jeffers left the woman for dead and leaving multiple gunshot pellets in her abdomen, the defense said Jeffers had “absolutely no intention of harming her,” as the gun was fired by mistake. Jeffers lawyer argued that his client’s call to reception showed he was “concerned” about the victim’s “well-being.”
The judge then sentenced Jeffers to 10 years in prison.
“This gun was used as part of a sexual fantasy with dreadful consequences. It is difficult to think of a more dangerous use of this weapon. This was reckless and serious of the firearm,” sentencing Judge John Potter said.
“Her injuries are life threatening and she is having to cope with those for the rest of her life. She has been released from hospital but her daily life has been compromised and she faces the prospect of further surgery and she lives to suffer with the anguish for some time to come.”
