Vin Diesel just gave fans a major update on the future of the “Fast & Furious” franchise: the eleventh movie is officially happening and scheduled for release in April 2027.
Per Variety, Diesel shared the news at Fuel Fest in Pomona, California, where he appeared alongside Tyrese Gibson and Cody Walker. He explained that Universal Pictures had reached out to him about locking in the final film, and he agreed on three non-negotiable points.
First, the story must return to Los Angeles, the city where it all began. Second, it has to bring back the heart of the franchise: street racing and car culture. Lastly and most unexpectedly, Diesel wants Dom Toretto reunited with Brian O’Connor.
That last detail shocked many, as Brian O’Connor, portrayed by Paul Walker, was retired from the franchise after Walker’s tragic death in 2013. His character’s emotional farewell in “Furious 7” was crafted using CGI to give him a proper send-off.
“Fast X” was intended to be the first part of a two-part finale, so fans are left guessing whether “Fast & Furious 11” will pick up where it left off or take the story in a new direction. Diesel’s vision for the next chapter reflects a commitment to honoring the franchise’s roots while delivering the action and emotional resonance fans expect.
With a likely storyline based on Brian’s return and a revival of L.A. street racing, the final ride is shaping up to close the saga with both speed and heart.
