Fast X is on track to bring in more than $60 million during its debut weekend, knocking Disney and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 out of first place.
The latest film in the Fast and Furious franchise opened up to 4,046 theaters on Friday, taking in a total of $28 million. The movie is expected to make $22.43 million on Saturday and $16.82 million on Sunday.
Variety reports that the strong opening isn’t enough to overtake the other films in the franchise. In fact, Fast X ranks 7th in Fast and Furious openings between 2019s Hobbs and Shaw spin-off and F9: The Fast Saga.
The 10th film is, however, expected to make more than $250 million internationally on its first weekend, enough for the second biggest debut weekend this year. Fast X sits only behind surprise hit The Super Mario Bros.
The big budget film cost about $340 million to make and another $100 million spent on promoting, so the movie needs to continue to perform to make that back.
Let’s hope there’s enough “family” still waiting to see it.
Fast Saga fan-favorites Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese, Ludacris, Jordana Brewster, and Sung King all return for Fast X. Jason Mamoa, Rita Moreno, and Brie Larson are all new to the cast. Many other prominent actors that have previously appeared in the Fast Universe, such as John Cena, Jason Statham, Helen Mirren, and more are also in Fast X.
