Father And Stepmother Charged With Capital Murder In Death Of 14-Month-Old

A father and stepmother have been arrested and charged with capital murder for the murder of a 14-month-old little girl.

The Claiborne County sheriff’s department arrested Morris Bevily IV and TKia Bevily Monday morning. The couple was charged for the murder of Jurayah Smith, who reportedly died on October 22 in 2017. At the time, she was being cared for by her father Morris, and step-mother, TKia.

The child’s mother, Dedreuna Smith, posted the girl’s first pathological exam on social media and now wants the two behind bars. The exam shows the baby girl died from multiple blunt head trauma; medical examiners have ruled her death a homicide.

As for the reason for the delay, Sheriff and Claiborne Co. District Attorney Alexander Martin said they were waiting on the official autopsy from the State Crime Lab before proceeding with any arrests. More details upcoming.
